Service Description

This is an 8 week course with 90 minute lessons each week. I have been writing songs for as long as I can remember. Seriously, my mom has a story about me at 18 months! (Though I don't remember that.) And I firmly believe that anyone can sing and write songs. There is something amazing, healing, and invigorating about putting your own words to music and telling a story, either one you've lived or one that moves you deeply. Whether you want to write songs for yourself or others, you need to take into account what showcases the singer best, what chords evoke the emotions that you want people to feel, what pacing keeps your listener engaged, how to structure it so it makes the biggest impact, etc. There's an art to it and I love teaching art! But there is also a craft to it--rules that can be used or broken to get the affect you want in your listener and singer. When I took a songwriting class in college, it broadened my horizons and gave me some key tools that I didn't realize I was missing. After this class I even recorded and released my album "How Do I Fly" which is available on iTunes and Spotify. I gained so much insight and learned how to break it down into parts that are easy to teach and fun to learn. I can't wait to share them with you. ** You don't have to know how to play an instrument to take this course. But you do need access to a keyboard or virtual keyboard and a way to record your music. With basic chord instruction you'll receive in our lessons, you'll be well on your way to writing songs you can feel proud to share.
